If you clicked on this link thinking I would be talking about tacos, tortas, or tamales, I have some bad news for you! While I love la dieta de T as much as the next Mexican woman, I have yet to find the most authentic tacos, tortas, or tamales. Now before a San Antonian comes after me, I'm not saying they don't exist. I'm just saying I haven't found it yet. There's too much yellow cheese in Texas for it to be true Mexican food. Fact: yellow cheese is not real Mexican cheese... Sorry, guys.

So if it's not tacos, then you're probably wondering what it is, right? I present to you Pollos Asados los Norteños 👉🏾. Yes, the most authentic Mexican food I have found so far in San Antonio is grilled chicken and my goodness it is delicious.

I go to Michoacán almost every December to visit family and every time I go my abuelito orders a pollo asado exactly like the ones from Pollos Asados los Norteños. Seriously, if I had closed my eyes, I would have thought I was sitting at my abuelita's table in Michoacán eating my chicken and drinking a beer with my abuelito. Pollos Asados los Norteños marinates their chicken to perfection and grills it atop a charcoal flame just like in Mexico. The skin is crispy and the chicken is juicy. I can't praise them enough. They've created perfection.

And if taste isn't enough to convince you to go, let's talk price. I have told you before that free is my favorite price, but if I can't have it for free "cheap" is my next favorite. Pollos Asados los Norteños will hook you up! For $14.59 plus tax, you get a whole grilled chicken, rice, tortillas, salsa verde y roja, chiles toreados, and cebolla asada. For an additional $1.50, you can order charro beans, which I totally recommend you get. This meal can easily feed 2-3 people and bonus everyone will be happy!

Right now, they're only doing curbside pickup due to COVID-19. Don't let the crazy long line intimidate you because they have their system down. We were in and out in 10 minutes. Plus, if the line is that long, then you know the food is worth it. Something else worth mentioning is that they just opened a new location per their instagram. I haven't been to the new one yet but I'm sure it's just as good.

So next time you're in the Alamo, skip Pollo Loco and go to Pollos Asados los Norteños. Support a local business. Have you been here? If yes, share your thoughts with me. Sending you all my love and remember to travel, read a great book (and send me your recommendations), and drink some rosé while eating Pollos Asados los Norteños. Actually, that sounds really good... I know what I'm having for dinner. Until next time!

-Pau

P.S. I have been asked why I sign as Pau. Pau has always been a nickname for Paulina. In Mexico, the majority of my family calls me Pau or Pauly as do my little cousins in Illinois. I never went by it in the United States because it doesn't quite sound the same in English. However, recently my husband has taken a liking to the nickname and since I've always preferred Pau - Pau it is.
